Monster Trucks!

This last Friday my in-laws took us to see the monster truck show at the Maverick Center in SLC. Before the show we got to walk around the pit and look at the trucks. I bought Leland a checkered flag (which he thought was awesome) and we had some of the drivers sign it. Leland was in boy heaven!

Justin and I were looking forward to this all week. But... you know how you build things up in your head and then life with kids happens? Ha ha yup! We thought Leland would be over the moon to watch these trucks- he is constantly begging to watch monster trucks on youtube and almost always has a monster truck toy in his hand. So this was the perfect outing right? Wrong. The trucks must have been too loud, even though we did bring ear protection, because once the trucks started revving their engines Leland started bawling! Poor kid was scared to death.

So. I spent a good twenty minutes in the women's bathroom trying to console my screaming toddler. Luckily he loved the motorcycle jumpers and the smaller truck races- but we definitely will not be doing that again until he is older. We are still a little perplexed by it all because he has been to demolition derby's and the motor race way, which are both extremely loud, but something about that scared the pants off the poor little guy. Oh well. Live and learn I guess, right?

Lucky for us we got some great photos from the night. It was a family adventure, so worth it in the end. The really funny part was how he kept yelling, "That was so much fun!" on the way to the car! haha thank heavens kids are resilient and don't scar for life easily.

Happy People Don't Shoot Their Husbands

If you are one of those people who get annoyed at people posting about going to the gym and their workouts, then you better skip this post. (And sorry/not sorry for two gym posts in a row.)

The other day we were scrambling to get breakfast, get dressed, and get out the door to the gym. It was one of those days that Leland decided to be a snail, and my mommy patience was running low... you know those days? Normally it would be cute that he wanted to name all of the colors in his cereal bowl instead of just eating it. Or that he had to count the light bulbs in our house. Or that we put the wrong shirt on him because the monster on it was too scary. So yeah. It took what like felt FOREVER to get out of the door.

As we were driving to the gym, I turned to Justin and said, "Sorry I lost my cool. I got in a bad mood this morning, but it will be better after my workout." And then it hit me, exercising makes me happy and in a better mood.

That day I did laps in the pool. There was a spot in the water where the sun was blazing down through the window, and I floated in it, and felt the warmth on my face, and it was pure joy. A taste of summer if you will. And I walked out of the gym happy. And I was happy to be a wife. And I was happy to be a mom to a little boy who noticed the world around him and wanted to point out every little thing to me and share in his excitement for the world.

So while I think I am exercising for myself, I am actually exercising for them. Because happy people don't shoot their husbands.

Happy Friday to YOU!

Guys! Guys! Guys! Guess what guys?! It's FRIDAY!!! Happy weekend to ya! This weekend will be full of nothing to do. Isn't that wonderful. There might be cleaning. There might be laundry. There might be a certain dog getting a bath. There might even be some yard work. Who knows? But you can bet your bottom dollar that there WILL be garage sales. There WILL be sunshine. And there WILL be time with family. In case I haven't made you excited for the weekend, here are a couple of others to help you get in the weekend mood!

Pee Pee Fountains

The other day Justin was in desperate need of a nap before I left for work and he was on baby duty, so Leland hung out with mom while I got ready for work that morning. After a while he got bored of his toys so I took off his pants and diaper and plopped him in the sink. He played with the faucet and got himself all wet, played with the hair products, make up brushes, and other items on my counter, and basically just had a good old time discovering a new spot in the house that he hadn't been able to explore before. As I was putting on my mascara I look up to see him playing in a puddle. At first I just figured that he had gotten the counter all wet from turning on the faucet. At second glance I realized that the liquid was not clear, so I thought maybe he had spilled the hand soap. On third glance I finally realized that the liquid was yellow and not orange like our hand soap. Pee, it was pee! ALL over my counter. And Leland was splashing his hands in his own urine. Grrrreat. All of a sudden he looks down and another little fountain of yellow liquid starts shooting up, so he starts playing in it while it is spraying all over. By this time I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe and he was giggling as well. A few dozen Clorox wipes later and lots of REAL hand soap for both of us, I had a great story to share. He is ALL boy, this one! Days later and I am still laughing about this little pee pee fountain episode. I feel like I could be on one of those Clorox commercials... you know the ones... the ones that make you cringe and smile at the same time. Youtube them if you haven't seen them, they will make your day. Anyway, I got some cute pictures of my little man before all of the pee pee chaos happened. Isn't he adorable?! I could just EAT HIM UP!!!

He LOVES to look at himself in my hand mirror.

Precious Moments

I am 100% positive that my son was sent to me to help me laugh every day. I heard someone somewhere say that you need one good laugh every single day to live a happy life. Since Leland was born, I am fairly certain that he has made me laugh at least once every day of his life. He is such a funny kid and has seriously brought so much joy into our home.  Even during those sleepless nights and hard first days of being a new mommy, he made me laugh right out loud with some funny little thing that he did. He really is a very entertaining kiddo.

So this morning he woke up around 6 am for his bottle. After I had finished feeding him and changed his diaper I was carrying him to the crib and he does this new thing where he loves to put his cheek right on yours, which is really sweet. I just stood holding him cheek to cheek for a minute, enjoying this precious moment with my baby when we ended up forehead to forehead. I was all like, “Wow, what a wonderful moment I am sharing with my son”, when all of a sudden he starts sucking on my nose. I was so surprised and it felt so weird that I just started laughing. Well when I laugh he laughs and then he tries to make me laugh again, so he started sucking on my nose again. So of course I started laughing again which made him laugh again and we just had one big laughing fest in the wee morning hours.

It may sound really simple, and may not be that funny to you, but it honestly made my whole day. I love that he loves to make me laugh. I am certain that he tries to make me laugh. When really, shouldn’t it be the other way around? It’s just another affirmation that he is heaven sent. He is what I need. He is what our home and family needs. He is my good hardy laugh a day. I find his sense of humor completely hilarious.

The Sweetest Comeback

As I was driving home from work on  Thursday night I all of a sudden got the 'date itch'. So when I got home I woke my husband up and informed him that he was going to take me out on a date. Being the good sport that he is he agreed. We went and ate at Rumbi Grill which was delicious. Afterwards, being the party animals that we are, we decided to head over to Walmart to look at car seats and strollers.

Well, we had really good timing because when we got to Walmart the very first pallet of Hostess had been delivered just moments before. We had made it just in time for the grand re-opening of America's favorite product. The guy that was unloading it told us that this was the first pallet and he suspected it would be gone within the hour. He also informed us that Walmart is the only store allowed to sale it for the next two weeks. So we of course decided to grab a couple of boxes because don't you know that roasted Twinkies over the campfire is a treat from heaven?!

So while we were getting our Hostess fix all of a sudden a mad rush of people swarmed that pallet like a moth to the flame. It was hilarious to watch guys, kind of like a 'black friday' ordeal.  Everyone started whipping out their phones and taking pictures of this grand event. I felt like I was part of history in the making or something. We Americans sure did miss that Hostess brand. Where would we be without their ding dongs, donuts, and twinkies? Skinnier yes. Happier no.

The Divine Calling of Motherhood

It's late. I need to be in bed right now, but the pull to write is stronger than the pull of my night time meds, so .... here I am. T...
