First Day of School

Today was the first day of school up here at USU and besides the rain, it was a pretty good one!

This semester I am taking British Lit, Anthropology of Religion, Intro to Shakespeare, and Math. I know someone in every class except for my math class which is pretty cool. I like all of my teachers so far, except for my math class. I think the homework load with be pretty manageable, except for my math class. And I am super excited for all of my subjects, except for, you guessed it, my math class!

I think my favorite teacher by far is my Intro to Shakespeare professor. She is such a hoot. I think she must work nights as a comedian. She spent the first ten minutes of class today discussing how attractive she thinks William Shakespeare is.

My British Lit professor seems pretty awesome too. She offered to convince anyone who comes to talk to her to become an English Major and why it is the best possible major during these difficult times. She even offered to call anyone's parents up and convince them we made the right major choice as well. I think I might need to take her up on that offer haha.

So besides my math class, I am super excited for the subjects I will be learning this year.

The only bad part of today, besides my math class :), is the rain. Holy buckets! I also got caught in the wicked hail storm as I was walking across campus. I might as well have jumped into a swimming pool for how wet I was. So for my last two classes I was dripping wet and shivering out of control. I came home directly after school and put on my flannel pants, a hoodie, and some dry socks. As I was making myself a nice warm meal I couldn't believe that I was this cold in August!! It was almost like the Earth was mourning the end of summer, by proving to us that it really is the end of summer. Sad bunny!

Tarzan

My mom decided to plan her own birthday this year and she definitely did an excellent job. This last weekend my family was able to drive down to St. George and see 'Tarzan' at the Tuacahn theater. For those of you who have never been to the Tuacahn, put it on your bucket list! This is an outdoor amphitheater and the backdrop is the breathtaking red rock mountains. I LOVE this theater with all of my heart! This is my second time going, two years ago my mom and I went to Les Miserables, and it definitely will not be my last! (Especially because next year they are doing..... THE LITTLE MERMAID! Sign me UP!)

Tarzan was amazing!!! All of the apes were acrobats and professional dancers and I still do not understand how they were so good at not only walking, but dancing as well, like apes for the entire show. They obviously have core muscles that I can't even begin to fathom! The new songs were awesome, and the actors did a wonderful job as well. I was stunned by the talent coming out of the young tarzan. He was such a cute kid! The special effects were unbelievable, but I can't even begin to describe it so you'll just have to use your imagination. Anyway, seeing as I just wrote my own critics review -- "Kristi gives it two thumbs up!" :)

While we were in St. George we also did a little shopping, went to see 'Despicable Me' (Funniest movie of all time. I nearly died from laughing), went out to eat, and got some serious sun while chillaxin' by the pool. I don't know how St. Georgians handle that kind of heat, but whew! I thought I was going to melt!

One of the funniest parts of the weekend (I thought anyway) was when we were stuck in traffic coming out of the theater and we decided to play the game, "If we were in Tarzan, what characters would we be?" So here is what we came up with:

Dad: Kerchak- because he is big, strong, the leader, sometimes scary, sometimes angry, and sometimes has quite the temper. But can also be a big marshallow on the inside, especially when it comes to playing with the little kids.

Mom: Kala- because she is motherly, will do anything for her kids, and lies to her husband to cover for the kids when they misbehave. And yet, she is the strong, supportive wife who loves her husband despite his flaws.

Cassie: Terk- Because she likes to be the center of attention. She makes people laugh and is always a hoot to be around. And she's the kind of person thats got your back.

Me: We didn't discuss me too much. I think we decided I was Tantor the elephant even though he wasn't in the play. I don't know why we decided this. haha

Jessica: The Jaguar- because she is more than a little bit scary. She has spots (had to be there moment). She steals babies. And she has the Jaguar's roar down to a tee!

Zach: Tarzan- because he is a total ladies man. Not to mention sometimes he acts like he was raised by wild animals. And sometimes his hygeine is something less than to be desired. But he is also really funny and dang that boy is a hottie! haha

Oh Happy Day!

Remember when I said life happens fast? ha ha Oh Gosh. My life is fun.

So I am all geared up to move. Last night I packed about 8 boxes. All of my shelves and drawers and closet are now empty. I have piles of boxes all lined up around the walls of my room - labeled and taped shut and everything.

This morning I got a visit from my landlord. He told me he really wanted me to stay and that he would be willing to work with me on the payment schedule. When he told me this I was a little more than stunned. When I had spoken to him earlier this week he would not budge an inch! So he starts calculating numbers and we compromise on a price that we both can live with. Which means....

I DON'T HAVE TO MOVE!

True I will be living pretty tight for a while. But it is so so so worth it! I get to keep my room. My bathroom. My walking distance to campus. My ward. My bishopric. My EMILY! Boo-Frickin-Yeah Baby!

I guess it's time to start UN-packing now haha.

Life Comes At You Fast

This has been kind of an insane couple of weeks. So many ups and downs.

I absolutely love summer. But one thing I am not so fond of is how much money I dish out this time of year. Is it just me or does August seem like 'the biggest drain on your wallet' month?! You have to pay for tuition, rent, security deposits, books, utilities - The list goes on and on!

I am still working at my bug job, but the work has been slower than I anticipated this summer. I went almost an entire month with no work, something I was definitely not planning on. I have been trying to take out a student loan - geez. What a fiasco that turned out to be! So anyway. When it finally came down to it I just could not afford my apartment's rent. I came to this conclusion yesterday when like the 10'th bank turned me down for my student loan. (Stupid banks! Stupid money! Stupid co-signer rule!) Ah-hem. Anywho....

Moving should not be a big deal right? Wrong! I am seriously so distraught about this move. I have moved a lot up here in Logan. But I couldn't wait for those moves. I was always way past done with those apartments. But it just is not the case with Highlander D. I think the hardest part is leaving my roommate Emily. She is my best friend. We both cried when I told her. (Again- Stupid Banks!!) I am also really going to miss my ward. Dang I have an amazing ward and bishopric. Not to mention Highlander's convenience of being a hop skip and jump away from campus. Another thing I will miss is having my own room and bathroom.

I keep telling myself that change is good. And maybe this one will be too. Life has gone kind of downhill lately so maybe some new scenery is exactly what I need. My new apartment is called Cambridge Courts. The apartment has 2 bedrooms (4 girls) and 1.5 bathrooms. Utilities are paid for (thank goodness). But the best part is that it has an INDOOR pool and hot tub. So yeah. This change is kind of a bitter-sweet one.

I have to be out of my apartment by this Saturday but can't move in until the 27'th. Homelessness is always fun. It's just so crazy how fast life can change. I didn't even have a weeks notice of this one.

Other than moving I have just been working and playing. My Bear Lake trips are still going strong - I am at 9 out of my 15 goal so I think I can make it. We went to the Preston Rodeo last weekend which was a total riot! Movie Parties start back up again this week which I am excited for. The rest of this month will include: -One massive bear lake day (everyone's invited!) -A Friend Camping Trip -A weekend in St. George with my fam to see Tarzan at the Toucan Theater -A New Apartment -School Starts

August may have started out a little rough but I think it will end with a bang!

The Divine Calling of Motherhood

It's late. I need to be in bed right now, but the pull to write is stronger than the pull of my night time meds, so .... here I am. T...
